On a mundane level, she is India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s only female prime minister to date. On a stellar level, she has three <em>Parivartana Yogas<\/em> in her chart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How rare is that? Although 40% of the general population has one <em>Parivartana Yoga<\/em>, only 3% has two, and only 0.03% has three such yogas. That\u00e2\u0080\u0099s only three people in 10,000!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Indira Gandhi: the mini-biography<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Indira Gandhi was India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s Prime Minister during 1966-77 and 1980-84. Daughter of India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, she received an excellent education, studying history at Oxford and speaking perfect French.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During university, she was plagued with ill-health and constantly attended by doctors.\u00c2\u00a0Against her father\u00e2\u0080\u0099s wishes she married a man who turned out to be an alcoholic and womanizer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As Prime Minister, Gandhi was politically ruthless in centralizing her power. Although charged with electoral malpractice, jailed and banned from office, she staged a comeback. During India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s state of emergency, she allowed her son Sanjay to create what was effectively a police state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She was an advocate of equal pay for equal work. She presided over the nationalization of India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s banking, coal, steel, copper, refining, textile and insurance industries, largely to protect employment and the interests of organized labor. She also orchestrated mass redistribution of land to assist the lower classes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gandhi unleashed a powerful military offensive in the 1970s, waging wars against Pakistan and East Pakistan, resulting in the partition of Bangladesh. She formed an alliance with Russia to the chagrin of America.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">She was assassinated by two Sikh bodyguards whose loyalties changed after she used the army to dislodge militants from a Sikh holy site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Indira Gandhi: her chart<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Indira Gandhi was born 19 November 1917 at 23h11 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Her chart contains several significant yogas. As a woman born at night with the Sun, Moon and ascendant all in even signs, her <em>Maha Bhagya Yoga<\/em> qualifies her as something of a female \u00e2\u0080\u009clord of the earth\u00e2\u0080\u009d, ie, a political leader.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Gandhi-2x.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2575\" src=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Gandhi-2x.png\" alt=\"Gandhi 2x\" width=\"700\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Gandhi-2x.png 945w, http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Gandhi-2x-300x136.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>A <em>Budhaditya Yoga<\/em> with Sun and Mercury in the 5th makes her astute and intellectually capable. The mutual aspect of Moon and Saturn, lords of 1st and 7th houses, forms <em>Dharma Karma Adhipati Yoga<\/em>, wielding power over the masses. The mutual aspect of Sun and Jupiter, lords of 2nd and 9th, forms <em>Dhana Yoga<\/em>. On the negative side, <em>Papakartari Yoga<\/em> is formed with Mars and Ketu flanking Saturn in the ascendant, a harbinger of her many troubles in life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In addition to the above, the presence of three <em>Parivartana Yogas<\/em> looms above all else, and is worthy of a discussion all on its own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Parivartana Yoga<\/em><\/strong><strong>: a definition<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The word <em>parivartana<\/em> has many meanings. The Monier-Williams\u00e2\u0080\u0099 <em>Sanskrit-English Dictionary<\/em> gives us: \u00e2\u0080\u009cturning or whirling around; rolling about, moving to and fro; inverting, putting in a reverse order; barter, exchange, return.\u00e2\u0080\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In essence, <em>parivartana<\/em> connotes mobility and movement, but only in the sense that the planets are symbolically mobile. A <em>Parivartana<\/em> <em>Yoga<\/em> has nothing to do with travel <em>per se<\/em>, but by implication, a <em>Parivartana<\/em> <em>Yoga<\/em> is dynamic, because the two planets are linked in a manner that allows transposition by sign and, therefore, by house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The exchange of lords invokes the cooperation of their respective houses, but the nature of houses varies significantly. Broadly speaking, we can divide houses into two distinct groups:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* Positive houses include the <em>kendras<\/em> (1-4-7-10), the <em>trikonas<\/em> (5-9) and the so-called neutral houses (2-11).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* Negative houses include the <em>dusthanas<\/em> (3-6-8-12).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Of the latter, we can make further distinctions between \u00e2\u0080\u009cserious\u00e2\u0080\u009d <em>dusthanas<\/em>, ie, the <em>trikasthanas<\/em> (6-8-12), and the \u00e2\u0080\u009cmild\u00e2\u0080\u009d <em>dusthana<\/em> of the 3rd house. <em>Trik<\/em> houses are generally problematic, and considered undesirable locations for any planet. Somewhat better is the 3rd house, an <em>upachaya<\/em> <em>bhava<\/em> representing difficulties at the outset, but improvement over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The various exchanges of house lords can thus be grouped into three distinct categories of yoga, each with a more specific designation:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Maha Parivartana Yoga<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Maha<\/em> means \u00e2\u0080\u009cdignified, exalted, glorious, majestic, nobly born.\u00e2\u0080\u009d A<em> Maha Parivartana Yoga<\/em> therefore implies a touch of divine fortune. The yoga involves the mutual exchange of any two positive house lords, ie, the lords of houses 1-2-4-5-7-9-10-11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/indira9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/indira9-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"indira9\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Mantreswara said of this yoga: \u00e2\u0080\u009c<em>The native born with a Maha Yoga in his birth chart will be endowed with the blessings of the Goddess Shri, will have enormous wealth, will have garments of variegated colors, wear gold ornaments, will be richly rewarded by the sovereign with gifts and administrative authority, and possess vehicles, wealth and children.<\/em>\u00e2\u0080\u009d (Phala Deepika 6:34)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There are two <em>Maha Parivartana Yogas<\/em> in Gandhi\u00e2\u0080\u0099s chart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The first yoga<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Saturn in 1st house Cancer exchanges with the Moon in 7th house Capricorn to form a <em>Maha Parivartana Yoga<\/em>. Saturn is in ordinary condition, although the Moon could be considered weak since it lies within six <em>tithis<\/em> (roughly 72 degrees) of the Sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Moon\/Saturn pair also forms a <em>Dharma Karma Adhipati Yoga<\/em>, being lords of 1\/7 in mutual aspect. Post-exchange, Saturn gains <em>dig bala<\/em>. Pre- or post-exchange, the planet in the 7th receives an aspect from Jupiter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">First house themes emerged via her considerable charisma by which she was able, despite being a woman, to attain unprecedented power \u00e2\u0080\u0093 as a cabinet minister, Congress Party leader and the longest-serving Prime Minister of India. But the negative side of 1st house meanings also manifested in her many personal health issues, especially in her school years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Seventh house themes included a very mixed review of \u00e2\u0080\u009crelationship\u00e2\u0080\u009d issues: a difficult marriage, one-sided political partnerships, and a somewhat volatile foreign relations policy that saw India siding with Russia, irking America, and precipitating wars with both Pakistan and China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The second yoga<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mars in 2nd house Leo exchanges with Sun in 5th house Scorpio to form a second <em>Maha Parivartana Yoga<\/em>. Both planets are ordinary, although the Sun forms a <em>Dhana Yoga<\/em> with Jupiter, and a <em>Budhaditya Yoga<\/em> with Mercury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Post-exchange, Mars in the 5th would, as 10th lord, form a <em>Dharma Karma Adhipati Yoga<\/em> via its mutual aspect with Jupiter the lord of the 9th.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/GandhiNehru.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2578 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/GandhiNehru-300x182.jpg\" alt=\"Gandhi&amp;Nehru\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a>Second house themes emerged via her \u00e2\u0080\u009cNehru Dynasty\u00e2\u0080\u009d family, wherein both her father Jawaharlal Nehru and her son Rajiv were prime ministers. Economics issues plagued her stewardship of India, but as PM she doggedly presided over three 5-year plans, two of which met their targets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fifth house themes included challenging and successful ministerial roles, but also difficulty in studies, where at university she was a somewhat mediocre student. Her sorrows with respect to her children are well known: her younger son and heir-apparent Sanjay died in a flying accident; her elder son Rajiv, urged into politics to become PM, was later assassinated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Khala Parivartana Yoga<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Note<\/span>: there is no <em>Khala Parivartana Yoga<\/em> in Gandhi\u00e2\u0080\u0099s chart, but for the sake of discussion, it is briefly defined and described here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Khala<\/em> means \u00e2\u0080\u009cabusive, contentious, mischievous, quarrelsome, villainous, wicked.\u00e2\u0080\u009d A <em>Khala Parivartana Yoga<\/em> therefore implies something of a troublemaker. The yoga involves the mutual exchange of the 3rd house lord with any one of the positive house lords, ie, houses 1-2-4-5-7-9-10-11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here again, Mantreswara says: \u00e2\u0080\u009c<em>The native born with a Khala Yoga in his birth chart is sometimes haughty and at times very gentle and polite. His life is dotted with both success and failures. At times he has God\u00e2\u0080\u0099s plenty and at another he is in distress, poverty, misery and the like.<\/em>\u00e2\u0080\u009d (Phala Deepika 6:33)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Dainya Parivartana Yoga<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Dainya<\/em> means \u00e2\u0080\u009caffliction, depression, misery, wretchedness.\u00e2\u0080\u009d A <em>Dainya Parivartana Yoga<\/em> thus implies difficulties and misfortunes. The yoga involves the mutual exchange of any <em>trik <\/em>lords, ie, the lords of houses 6-8-12, among themselves or with any lord of the remaining houses, ie, 1-2-3-4-5-7-9-10-11.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/indira2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2582\" src=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/indira2-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"indira2\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Again, in Mantreswara\u00e2\u0080\u0099s words: \u00e2\u0080\u009c<em>The native born with a Dainya Yoga in his birth chart is a fool, speaks ill of others, always acting sinfully, tormented by his enemies, always hurts the feelings of others by his speech and is of unstable mind. Whatever he ventures, it is full of hurdles.<\/em>\u00e2\u0080\u009d (Phala Deepika 6:33)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is one <em>Dainya Parivartana<\/em><em> Yoga<\/em> in Gandhi\u00e2\u0080\u0099s chart:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Venus in 6th house Sagittarius exchanges with Jupiter in 11th house Taurus to form <em>Dainya Parivartana<\/em><em> Yoga<\/em>. Jupiter is retrograde, therefore strong, and involved in a <em>Dhana Yoga<\/em> via its mutual aspect with the Sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Post-exchange, neither Jupiter nor Venus forms any constructive yoga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sixth house themes are evidenced in Gandhi\u00e2\u0080\u0099s strong-arm tactics, rule by decree, and her brutal exercise of police and military might during India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s state of emergency 1975-1977. This theme can also be seen in the \u00e2\u0080\u009cIndira Doctrine\u00e2\u0080\u009d that sought to unite various bordering states under India\u00e2\u0080\u0099s rule. Meanwhile, however, her sympathy for organized labor and the rural masses also worked its way through legislation in the form of land distribution, equal pay for equal work, and the nationalization of industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eleventh house issues were exemplified in her extensive social reforms, and political astuteness both home and abroad. But the blending of 6\/11 themes also played out in her fluctuating political fortunes, wherein friends and allies of today became opponents of tomorrow, and vice versa, and back and forth between jail and positions of power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/indira11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2584\" src=\"http:\/\/www.navamsa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/indira11-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"indira11\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The phenomenon was significant enough in her case to say that she was literally surrounded by \u00e2\u0080\u009c<em>frenemies<\/em>\u00e2\u0080\u009d of whose allegiances she could never be quite assured. This morphing of friends into enemies, and the reversal of fortunes that could accompany it, was perhaps epitomized by her death at the hands of her own Sikh bodyguards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thus, throughout the whole of her life, irrespective of other yogas in her chart, we can see much evidence of these three <em>Parivartana Yogas<\/em> in action, especially the last.
