I worked for 16 years in Human Resources for Canadian National Railway. During that time, CN evolved from a money-losing Crown corporation into a highly-profitable transportation network spanning the continent. Those were hard and heady years, as we trimmed the fat and flexed the muscle, grew our business and watched our share values grow.
In the early part of my career, I worked the front line as a personnel officer, hiring and firing, constantly assessing people for their potential. In later years, I counseled up-and-comers on managing their careers, assessed the competency of CNâs Top 200 personnel, and prepared executive reports on succession planning for future leaders.
I liked working with people who had a passion for their work. But almost every vice-president, director, manager or analyst I interviewed admitted that, despite their good education and work experience, they faced personal challenges on the job â managing their time, working with other people, and developing their strengths.
Nobody knew it back then, but unofficially I was using astrology to understand peopleâs motivations, their personal strengths and weaknesses, even the pace at which their careers would likely progress. Since then, in my private practice, Iâve used astrology again and again to help students pursue their appropriate field of study, to help graduates find their career niche, to help established professionals make a successful switch from one career track to another.
We spend half of our waking hours on the job, trying to find, develop and succeed in the profession that is right for us. We all make mistakes of one kind or another, and at one time or another. We all risk getting lost in the city of our ambitions, unable to find the highway because of all the traffic in the streets.
If you need some perspective on your professional life, an understanding of your personal character and what it implies about your fate, consider your options. Astrology and palmistry are part of an ancient tradition that has allowed gurus and sages over the millennia to give counsel and direction to seekers on the path. This is even more true in modern times, given all the competition, the stress, and the profusion of mixed signals we get from our families and co-workers, even ourselves.
If youâre looking for a little clarity, perspective or guidance in your professional life, a modest investment in time and money will pay you significant dividends.
